Chapter 14 - The Ring That Never Belonged to a Housekeeper

That evening, Dominic arranged an intimate dinner in the grand dining hall.

There were no business associates. No bodyguards inside the room. Just

candlelights, soft violin music playing in the background, and the finest

cuisine prepared by the estate's new executive chef.

Sophie fell asleep early on the velvet lounge sofa after dessert, wrapped in a

warm cashmere blanket.

Dominic stood up and walked over to Clara. He took her by the hand, leading her

to the towering glass balcony overlooking the glittering Philadelphia skyline.

“For four years, you took care of every single detail of my life without asking

for anything in return,” Dominic said, looking deeply into Clara’s eyes. “You

gave me a home when I only had a fortress. You gave me a daughter when I thought

I was destined to die alone in the dark.”

Clara’s breath hitched. “Dominic...”

Dominic reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a velvet box. He opened it

to reveal a magnificent ring crowned with an emerald-cut diamond, flanked by two

sapphire stones representing Sophie and Dominic.

He dropped to one knee before her.

“Clara, you will never wear an apron again. You will never hide in the shadows

of this house. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, the mother of my

children, and the Queen of everything I own?”

Clara placed her hands over her mouth, tears of pure joy streaming down her

cheeks.

“Yes,” she whispered, her voice overflowing with love. “A thousand times, yes!”
