Chapter 10 - When Sophie Looked Her Father's Ghost in the Eyes

Bang!

A high-caliber sniper round from Viktor on the upper catwalk tore through

Moretti’s wrist, sending the detonator flying across the concrete floor into the

water.

Moretti shrieked in agony, clutching his shattered arm.

Dominic closed the distance in half a second. He grabbed Moretti by the lapels,

slammed him against the steel beam, and drove his fist into the cartel boss's

jaw with bone-crushing force. Moretti collapsed into the puddle, unconscious and

broken.

Dominic didn't waste another second. He turned immediately toward the corner of

the room.

He dropped to his knees in front of the wooden crate.

Sophie was trembling, her tiny hands covering her eyes. Dominic’s hands—hands

that had ended empires and commanded armies—shook as he gently reached out.

“Sophie,” he called softly. His voice was completely stripped of hardness,

filled with a warmth no man had ever heard from Dominic Valente.

Sophie peeked through her small fingers. When she saw Dominic’s face, she let

out a breathless sob.

“Mr. Dominic!”

She threw her little arms around his neck, burying her face into his wet combat

vest. Dominic lifted her against his chest, wrapping his massive arms around her

small, fragile body, burying his face into her hair.

“I’ve got you,” Dominic whispered, his eyes stinging with unshed tears. “You’re

safe now, baby. Daddy’s got you.”

Dominic then turned to Clara. With a quick flick of his blade, he cut the ropes

binding her wrists and ankles.

Clara fell forward, exhausted, straight into Dominic’s open arm. He held both

mother and daughter against his chest, shielding them completely from the world.

“You came,” Clara sobbed against his shoulder.

May you like

“I will always come for you,” Dominic murmured against her temple. “Forgive me

for being blind for so long.”
