Chapter 5 - The Secret Haven and the Sterling Alliance

The sudden silence that enveloped the VIP lounge was so absolute that the clink
of a single crystal glass sounded like a gunshot.

Adrian stared at Vivian as if he were looking at a ghost. "Vivian... you're
supposed to be in the ICU."

"Were you hoping I’d still be there, Adrian?" Vivian asked, her voice calm,
melodic, and terrifyingly clear. "Or were you hoping I wouldn't wake up at all,
so your forged signature on the Lake Tahoe deed wouldn't be challenged?"

A collective gasp echoed across the room. Several high-profile journalists who
had been lingering near the entrance immediately lifted their telephoto cameras,
their shutters clicking in rapid succession.

"Vivian, stop this nonsense right now," Adrian hissed, stepping toward her, his
face flushed with rage. "You are causing a public scene. We are married. We
handle our affairs in private."

Before Adrian could take another step, Raymond Sterling moved smoothly between
them. Raymond didn't raise his hands; he simply stood like an immovable mountain
of legal and financial authority.

"Mr. Cole," Raymond said, his voice deep and razor-sharp. "You are currently
within five feet of my client. As of 4:00 PM today, the Supreme Court of New
York issued an emergency restraining order barring you from approaching Mrs.
Vance-Cole within one hundred yards. If you take one more step forward, the two
plainclothes detectives stationed at the ballroom exit will place you in
handcuffs for contempt of court."

Adrian stopped dead in his tracks. His fists clenched so tightly his fingernails
cut into his palms.

Celeste stepped out from behind Adrian, her voice shaking with defensive anger.
"Vivian, you're being utterly vindictive! You froze Grant Creative's accounts!
You have no right to interfere with my independent business operations!"

Vivian slowly shifted her gaze to Celeste. Her eyes were as cold and vast as an
arctic sea.

"Independent business operations?" Vivian asked with a soft, dismissive chuckle.
"Celeste, darling, let's discuss your 'independent' operations."

Vivian gave a slight nod to Raymond.

Raymond reached into his breast pocket and produced a sleek silver tablet,
holding it out so the surrounding crowd and the journalists could clearly see
the illuminated screen.

"Three years ago, Miss Grant was hired at Cole & Vance based on a portfolio of
architectural renderings allegedly designed for luxury residences in Milan and
Zurich," Raymond announced to the room with the practiced authority of a master
prosecutor. "Our forensic investigation concluded at noon today that every
single blueprint in Miss Grant's portfolio was plagiarized from a retired
professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan."

Celeste gasped, stumbling backward against the booth table. "That's... that's a
lie!"

"Furthermore," Vivian continued smoothly, her voice carrying effortlessly across
the ballroom, "the $10 million transferred into Grant Creative was routed
directly through an unlicensed entity under active investigation by federal
regulators for tax evasion. Every dress you commissioned, every fabric roll you
purchased, and the ivory bridal gown you wore in Aspen were paid for with
embezzled funds."

"Vivian, please!" Celeste begged, her composure instantly shattering as tears
began streaking through her heavy makeup. "Let's talk about this in private!"

"There is nothing left to talk about," Vivian said. She turned to the sommelier
who was still holding the unpaid $3,500 bill.

Vivian opened her small gold clutch, pulled out a crisp black Vance Conglomerate
executive charge card, and handed it to the waiter.

"Put Mr. Cole's champagne on my card," Vivian said calmly. "Consider it my final
charitable donation to the destitute."

The waiter swiped the card. APPROVED INSTANTLY.

Vivian turned back to Adrian. She looked at him from head to toe, her expression
holding neither hatred nor sorrow—only complete, absolute indifference.

"Enjoy the rest of your evening, Adrian," Vivian whispered. "The moving trucks
were just the opening act."

Without waiting for a response, Vivian turned and walked gracefully out of the
ballroom, flanked by Raymond Sterling and four private security officers,
leaving Adrian and Celeste standing alone in the center of the glittering room
as the flashes of a dozen cameras documented their total humiliation.
