Chapter 8 - The Senator's Shadow

Lorenzo strode into the grand foyer with the tablet in his hand and Beatrice at
his side.
The front doors were unlocked.
Senator Marcus Sterling stood in the entrance, flanked by six genuine Florida
State Troopers and two federal marshals who looked deeply uncomfortable.
Sterling was a tall, silver-haired politician with a tailored suit, expensive
veneers, and the arrogant sneer of a man who believed he owned the entire state
of Florida.
"Falcone!" Sterling bellowed, stepping into the foyer with false authority. "We
received reports of automatic gunfire and an illegal hostage situation on this
property. Stand down and surrender your weapons immediately!"
Lorenzo didn't reach for a gun. He walked slowly down the grand marble
staircase, descending like an emperor addressing a beggar.
"Senator Sterling," Lorenzo said, his voice echoing with absolute dominance
throughout the cavernous hall. "What a surprise. I didn't realize state senators
personally led tactical raids at three o'clock in the morning."
Sterling’s eyes narrowed. He looked past Lorenzo, expecting to see his private
death squad. When he saw only Marco’s stone-faced cleaners standing guard, a
flicker of panic crossed his eyes.
"Where is my daughter?" Sterling demanded. "Where is Isabella?"
"She's in my study, along with Vincent," Lorenzo replied smoothly. "They're
currently writing full sworn confessions regarding their plan to murder me and
frame the Rossi family."
Sterling scoffed loudly, trying to project confidence for the state troopers
behind him. "Nonsense! You're a criminal syndicate boss making wild accusations!
Marshal, arrest this man!"
The lead federal marshal stepped forward cautiously. "Mr. Falcone, we have an
emergency search warrant signed by Judge Vance—"
"Judge Vance?" Lorenzo interrupted, tapping the screen of his tablet. "You mean
the same Judge Vance who received a three-hundred-thousand-dollar deposit into
his Grand Cayman account yesterday afternoon from Sterling Maritime LLC?"
Sterling’s face turned the color of chalk.
"What did you say?" the federal marshal asked, stopping in his tracks.
"I have the complete financial ledgers right here," Lorenzo said, turning the
tablet toward the federal marshal. "Including the contracts for the shipment of
twenty tons of illegal narcotics moving through the Port of Miami under Senator
Sterling's direct political protection. And the wiretaps where the Senator
personally orders the execution of everyone in this house tonight."
The marshal looked at the screen. His eyes widened in shock.
"This... this is an active federal investigation file," the marshal whispered,
looking up at Sterling with sudden hostility.
"It's a forgery!" Sterling shrieked, backing toward the front door. "He's
framing me! He's a mobster!"
"It's not a forgery, Senator," a clear, steady voice rang out from the
staircase.
Everyone turned.
Beatrice stepped forward, holding the silver USB drive high in the air.
"This drive was hidden by your daughter, Isabella," Beatrice declared, her voice
ringing with absolute clarity through the marble foyer. "She kept it in the
library clock as insurance because she knew you would kill her the moment she
became inconvenient. Her digital signature and private encryption keys are on
this drive."
Sterling stared at the plus-size maid in her torn, soot-stained uniform, his
mouth opening and closing like a dying fish.
"You..." Sterling hissed. "Who the hell are you?! You're nobody! You're just a
filthy maid!"
Lorenzo was down the stairs in a flash.

Before Sterling could blink, Lorenzo’s hand clamped around the Senator’s throat,
lifting the powerful politician onto his tiptoes against the marble column.
"Speak to her with respect," Lorenzo growled, his voice vibrating with lethal
fury that made the state troopers freeze in place. "She is the woman who just
ended your career, your freedom, and your life."
