Chapter 11 - Rain, Gunfire, and the Sacrifice Graham Was Willing to Make

“Drop the case on the ground and kick it over!” Marcus shouted, leveling the gun

directly at Graham’s chest.

Graham didn't flinch. He set the leather briefcase on the wet concrete and

kicked it across the floor until it slid to Marcus’s feet.

“Untie her,” Graham demanded, his eyes never leaving mine. “Now.”

Marcus signaled to one of his hired thugs, who cut the ropes binding my wrists.

The moment I was free, I stumbled to my feet.

“Graham, don't!” I screamed. “He’s going to kill us both anyway!”

“Run to the SUV, Avery!” Graham commanded.

Marcus kicked the briefcase open, only to find it completely empty.

“You bastard!” Marcus screamed in rage, raising the gun to fire directly at me.

“NO!”

Graham moved with inhuman speed. He threw his body across the distance, tackling

me to the ground just as the deafening crack of a gunshot echoed through the

garage.

A sharp gasp escaped Graham’s lips as his weight crashed over me, shielding my

body entirely with his own.

Gunfire erupted from the perimeter of the garage as Frank and an entire tactical

squad of Chicago police officers breached the ramps, blue and red lights

flashing against the wet concrete.

“Drop the weapon! Police!”

Marcus’s guards threw their weapons down, hands in the air, while Marcus tried

to flee up the ramp before being tackled hard onto the concrete by three

officers and pinned in handcuffs.

“Graham!” I cried out, pushing myself up beneath him.

My hands came away from his back covered in warm, dark blood.

“Graham! Look at me! Stay with me!” I sobbed, pressing my hands against the

wound on his shoulder.

Graham looked down at me, his face pale, but a faint, breathtaking smile touched

his lips despite the pain. He raised a trembling, blood-stained hand and gently

cupped my cheek.

“Are you… are you hurt, Avery?” he whispered weakly.

“I’m fine! I’m fine, you idiot! Why did you jump in front of the bullet?”

“Because,” Graham gasped, his gray eyes shining with unshed tears, “you’re my

wife. And you’re the only thing in this entire world that truly matters to me.”

May you like

His eyes rolled back, and his head slumped against my chest as the sirens wailed

into the garage.
