Chapter 3

Episode 4: The Boardroom Battle
The heavy metal iron bar in Richard’s hand scraped against the wet pavement, a chilling prelude to the violence he intended to unleash. But Helen Vance was not a woman who froze in the face of ruin. As the private security mercenaries closed in around her SUV, the world seemed to slow down. She looked at the terrified face of Tiffany beside her, and then through the warehouse window at the young boy trapped inside. A lifetime of quiet resilience crystallized into instant, decisive action. Helen slammed her foot onto the accelerator, shifting the heavy vehicle into reverse.
The SUV roared to life, its tires screeching against the wet asphalt before violently smashing backward through the warehouse's rusted perimeter gate. The metal twisted and groaned under the impact, creating a loud, chaotic distraction. In the ensuing panic, Tiffany’s teenage brother, Leo, managed to utilize the distraction to violently thrash against his poorly secured ropes. Snapping the weathered bonds, he threw himself out of a low side window of the warehouse, tumbling onto the gravel just as Helen swung the accelerating car around. Tiffany flung the rear door open, pulling her bruised, sobbing brother into the safety of the vehicle. Helen didn’t look back. She floor-boarded the engine, escaping into the absolute darkness of the rainy night, leaving Richard’s furious, echoing curses far behind them.
Yet, as the headlights cut through the torrential downpour, Helen felt a profound, suffocating desperation creeping into her chest. The sanctuary of her past was gone. Her late father’s memory had been tarnished, turned into a corporate weapon wielded by Headmaster Harrison. Everything she believed about her legacy, her marriage, and her security had collapsed into ash. She was running out of time. The corporate emergency board meeting to officially strip her of her chairmanship and seize Vance Enterprises was scheduled for precisely nine o'clock the following morning. She had no home, she was a wanted fugitive, and her enemies held all the legal cards.
The next morning, the glass-and-steel towers of Vance Enterprises pierced the gray sky, cold and unforgiving. Inside the topmost executive boardroom, the atmosphere was thick with tension. The room was filled with elite corporate board members, sitting in high-backed leather chairs around a massive mahogany table. At the podium stood Headmaster Harrison, the epitome of sophisticated malice. With a somber, perfectly rehearsed expression of regret, he pulled up the official police arrest report from Episode 1 on the massive projection screens.
"It is a tragedy of the highest order," Harrison announced, his voice smooth and commanding. "But the law of the estate is absolute. Helen Vance is a accused murderer. I call for an immediate vote to permanently invoke the felony clause of the late patriach's will and transfer the entire multi-billion-dollar empire to my direct control."
Sitting at the front table, looking smug and triumphant in a brand-new custom Italian suit, was Richard. He smiled broadly, adjusting his silk tie, already tasting the sweet flavor of his stolen victory. One by one, the board members, driven by fear and corporate greed, unanimously raised their hands. The audience was locked into a grim, desperate reality: the corrupt villains had legally won, and the matriarch had lost her father's legacy forever.
Then, the heavy oak boardroom doors slammed open, echoing like a thunderclap through the silent room.
The board members gasped as Helen Vance walked in. She was not wearing the clothes of a fugitive; she stood tall, draped in a sharp, pristine charcoal tailored suit, her eyes flashing with a dangerous, brilliant intensity. Flanking her was Detective Wallace and a phalanx of grim-faced federal financial prosecutors.
Ignoring the stunned murmurs, Helen calmly stepped to the front of the room. With a swift stroke on her smart-tablet, she bypassed the security overrides and completely hijacked Harrison’s presentation screen. The arrest report vanished, replaced by a crystal-clear, unredacted financial ledger that she had meticulously recovered from Harrison’s own private, offshore servers during the frantic hours of the night.
"Before you finalize that vote," Helen’s voice rang out, cold, terrifying, and utterly authoritative, "perhaps you should look at the true foundation of Vance Enterprises."
Harrison’s aristocratic mask instantly cracked, his face draining of color as the financial documents laid bare thirty years of global deception.
"The inheritance I used to fund this company thirty years ago was never a legitimate gift from my father," Helen revealed, looking directly at the trembling board members. "My father, guided by Headmaster Harrison, had actually embezzled that money from a massive public pension fund. For the past three decades, Harrison has been using Vance Enterprises as a global money-laundering machine to hide the theft. The entire legal foundation of the will, the estate, and the felony clause is a fraudulent sham."
She stepped closer to Harrison, her gaze unblinking. "If I fall, Harrison, the federal prosecutors behind me will initiate an immediate asset forfeiture of the entire infrastructure. If you take this company from me, you inherit a hollow shell that defaults to the United States government within the hour. Your victory is utterly worthless."
Panicking as his life's work, his reputation, and his freedom crumbled around him, Headmaster Harrison lost all semblance of upper-class restraint. His eyes widened into the crazed stare of a trapped animal. Reaching into his breast pocket, he did not pull out a legal document—instead, he snatched a small, silver electronic detonator.
"You think you can ruin me, Helen?!" Harrison shrieked, his voice cracking with madness. He held his thumb directly over the red button. "I built this empire from nothing! If I am going down, I am burning this entire building, and everyone in it, to absolute ash!"
He revealed that during the night, anticipating a potential coup, he had covertly wired the building’s main server room—and the entire executive floor—with high-grade thermite explosives. Before anyone could move, Harrison slammed his thumb down on the button.
Instantly, the fire alarms began to wail a deafening, terrifying siren. Red emergency lights bathed the boardroom in a bloody hue as the security system automatically engaged, locking down the elevators and sealing the heavy emergency doors. The elite board members erupted into screams of pure terror, trapped in the sky, as the first faint wisps of chemical smoke began to seep through the ventilation shafts.
